Nixon Guitars has over 20 years of history in Cork, Ireland. We specialise in the repair of all types of stringed and fretted instruments. Guitars are our specialty, acoustic and electric. We also cater for traditional instruments such as Banjos, Mandolins and Bouzoukis. We have over 20 years of experience carrying out a wide range of repairs and custom work We cover everything from Set Ups to Re-Frets along with Touch Ups, Electrics and Custom work. Originally located in Thompson’s Bakery on Cork’s McCurtain St.. Nixon Guitars moved to Carrigrohane near the Anglers Rest in 2015. Calls are by appointment only so please call the number provided.
Qualifications & Experience
Steve Nixon’s initial interest in guitars began while he was studying mechanical engineering and took to playing guitar at the late age of 19. From there he joined local group, Kindred Spirit, playing contemporary rock covers. What began as a simple interest in playing music then led to a passion for making instruments. Having completed his studies he worked in the field of mechanical engineering for two years but he knew there was no future in that for him. So he set his sights on a place in the prestigious Leeds College Of Music were he obtain a place to study music instrument technology. After two years he received a diploma and the distinction of been awarded best student. From there Nixon Guitar was born which originally began with working out of a shed to then re-locating to Thompson’s Bakery where it remained for 19 years. In 2015 the workshop re-located to Anglers Rest where high quality repairs and custom work are still available.
What We do
Nixon Guitars deals with the setting up of any stringed and fretted instruments. Like the name suggest it’s mainly guitars with everything from re-fretting to partial re-fretting , sets ups, custom work, touch ups, and paint. Nixon Guitars also produces one off custom guitars from scratch and has models for viewing upon request. Be they Electric or Acoustic all types of repairs and custom work is available .
